Edmonton Savanah Association

The Edmonton Savannah Association (ESA), established in 2011, is a cornerstone of cultural enrichment and community solidarity. This organization champions the diverse heritage of Cameroon and the broader African community, going beyond mere cultural preservation to actively foster integration and unity among its members and of our community at large.

Our efforts are centered on building strong, cohesive community ties and ensuring a warm welcome for newcomers adapting to life in Canada.

ESA identifies challenges, assists members, and connects newcomers to essential community resources. Through seminars and workshops, our members and members of the community at large are equipped to tackle important issues such racial harmony, mental health, financial literacy, education, and entrepreneurship. ESA also facilitates integration and adaptation into Canadian society through job postings, training opportunities, and skill building workshops.

ESA’s Monthly General Assembly meetings are highlighted by vibrant celebrations of our culture, showcasing traditional arts, crafts, and culinary delights, alongside sports and children's activities. These gatherings are also a platform for members to receive support during life's pivotal moments—whether it's mourning a loss, welcoming a new child, or celebrating educational and professional milestones. Additionally, we emphasize the importance of cultural education for our younger members, teaching them about the diverse dialects and customs of the different tribes in Cameroon.

ESA advocates for Canadian values of rights, freedom, and inclusivity, actively opposing discrimination and prejudice. The association collaborates with cultural partners to host lively events that celebrate and showcase multiculturalism, strengthening the diverse fabric of our collective identity.

ESA's outreach extends to organizing group visits to scenic sites across Alberta and engaging in support initiatives for other communities, especially during times of crisis. We are dedicated to making a positive impact both locally and back in Cameroon, evidenced by our financial assistance and volunteering activities with the Edmonton Food bank and our ongoing projects to assist needy communities and refugees who have been displaced from their homes due to the crisis in the NW and SW regions of Cameroon.

Here at ESA, we don't just live in a community—we build it, cherish it, and celebrate it together.
